A Brief history of our Museum

Our club originated in October 1984 and was incorporated (Non Profit) in 1986 and for 13 years we held fund raising shows at the South-western Ontario Heritage Village on County Road 23.

In April of 1997 our club leased 10 acres of land in Co-An Park at McGregor in the County of Essex. November 1997 we were able to build on our property a museum building 48' x 140' to house only the clubs collection of old gas and steam powered engines, including tractors. In September 2000 we built our second building 48' by 96' to house our collection of steam engines.

Currently we are restoring our collection of antique small engines, old tractors and turn of the century steam engines including the Walkerville Lumber mill Steam Engine from Windsor, Ontario. In September of 2000 we built our second building to house steam engines. With our next steam engine restoration, we will be the largest steam engine museum in Ontario. We are well on our way to becoming another great tourist attraction. In 2001 our museum located and purchased a local antique saw mill. The Carl Smith Sawmill has been completed restored and running come view it at our show. The Waterous Engine which was donated to our museum has now been completely restored an was running just in time for our museum's 2007 Annual Show.

On June 9th, 2000 Revenue Canada registered our museum a charity status. To qualify we asked to change our name from club to museum.

Our Historian is completing a history log book on each item in our collection to be used as a guide book when showing tours through our new museum. Currently we tour school children through by appointment. We hold an Annual Steam and Gas Engine Show during which our members display their collections for the public to see.  Also we go to other shows taking some of our collection to these with us. In the spring each year we publish a 100 page magazine to highlight the feature attraction, as well as being a major fund raiser. These magazines are given away free at hundreds of retail businesses and to the public.

Most of our collection has been donated by local families. Our collection consists of antique small engines, old tractors and turn of the century steam engines. Other unique items have also been collected by our museum, such as the first Canadian steam engine built in Windsor Circa 1903. There is always something new to see.

Our museum opened to the public in the spring of 2000.
